Hi everyone

Last week with my head very much still in cruise mode, I found two lovely items at my local charity shops, which will be great for dress-up occasions and dare I say it, another cruise!

First, is a silky green short sleeved  Zara blouse sold with all its labels at £14, which I’ve paired with sale trousers recently bought from New Look at the astonishing price of £7.

So that’s a new item bought from a High Street shop at half the price of a charity shop item! Mind you, these more expensive charity shop items are donations from Zara and are new sold with their labels on. I rather like the blast of colour from the cropped pants, as I note that many women on a Smart Casual night wore black trousers (as I did) or a black skirt with their sparkly tops.

And second is this charity shop leopard print beauty. Its label is Phool, which I believe makes it a vintage item – cost £15.

It has two layers of floaty material plus a lining.

I rather like the way it skims the waist!

This is half the attraction of the dress, it is so comfortable to wear.

It will be useful worn at the latter end of a cruise – after all that food you get on board ship!

That’s all for now, but I thought I’d share this with you. I’m having an existential crisis about my hair! Front wise – it’s Ok(ish). Side-wise on and from the back it’s very wrong. Yes, I know, so humdrum and mundane of me.

BUT. Hair is a thing. And part of one’s identity. It took a lot of courage to get a layered cut and, you know what, as per usual, it hasn’t worked. I don’t like this cut AT ALL. Gahhhhhhh!

I’m not sure if I have to grin and bear it and take a couple of years to grow it all out again. Or go for a shaggy Judi Dench/Helen Mirren type pixie. It’s one or the other.  Because it isn’t right at the moment. Helllllp!

And do tell.  Have you had a cut you regretted!!!!

With love, Penny, the Frugalfashionshopper

Hair… think cut is ok but check How you are drying it. Think yours look flat and it needs more bounce and shaggines.
Product(s) you use … are they working well? Brush size for drying.
Go back to the hairdresser and just get a wash and blow to see if you like it the way it turns out.
Google hairstyles for 70+ age group short hair plenty of choice there

      Hi Lindsay

I am not good at styling which is why a no-layer style always suited me well, as I just didn’t do anything with it. The shampoos and styling mousses are Paul Mitchell, so are very good quality. I haven’t got a diffuser for my hairdryer – so might look at how I can get one. I don’t want to go back to the hairdresser – it’s a bad cut!!!!

I have googled those hairstyles and then looked back at some photos of my hair one length and no layers – it’s better that way!!!! But I do appreciate your help. The blog and all your comments has helped a lot.

      Thanks Lyndsay 🙂

I think your hair looks good, Penny, but then it’s similar to mine now. Unlike you, it got longer, rather than shorter, though. Short was too harsh, especially from the side and I don’t think it ever really suited me. But I think realistically at our age one’s chin and neck do start to sag and I don’t think haircuts can solve that. I think one just has to accept that. I didn’t wear skirts or dresses for years because of my varicose veins, caused by two pregnancies, but having discovered how nice dresses feel in hot weather I’m no longer bothered. My mother said to me when I was about ten that what one feels like is more important that what one looks like to others, but it’s taken me a long time to get there.

      Hi Umi

The thing is I’ve just looked at some photographs taken earlier this year before I got the layers cut and my hair is just so much better that way – so I am going to grow it out!!! Do you know you’ve absolutely nailed it as it is the way you feel that is more important than the way you look – up to a point though!!! But yes, I agree with that. And this cut makes me feel bad about myself. I can see it in the photos I’ve had taken recently. I do not feel myself with this hair.

I do every now and then look in the mirror and think, wtf, but on the whole accept it. What I don’t accept is the way my hair looks at the moment, it’s all over the place but this I can rectify. Thank goodness, my hair grows quickly, it’ll take a few months but I’ll get there. And I feel better already saying this!

Dresses are great, especially the longer ones which hide the purple legs and varicose veins – but we haven’t really had the weather. A couple of thin, sleeveless dresses have gone unworn because we just haven’t had the hot weather.

Thanks Umi, I really appreciate your thoughts 🙂

Dear Penny, Love the Phool dress ,it’s a great shape. Not so keen on the blouse, a bit frilly for my taste, but my taste is getting plainer as I age! I really like minimalist clothes but interesting/ wacky scarves and jewellery,it seems to work . Thinking about your hair, it is just a bit too short,it was so pretty about a couple of inches longer and I agree with Lyndsay , perhaps a bit more bounce!
Very best wishes and happy charity shopping, the autumn collections should be in them soon!

Interesting, I’ve had several comments on that blouse, and looking at it again….. I absolutely can wear those red pants with my evening black tops and I can see that it would be so much better.

I also know that my hair is so much better one length. I’ve just looked back at some photos taken earlier this year, before I started the layers. I am going to grow it back – fortunately my hair grows quickly. Phew!

That Phool dress is great, that’s a good buy, as are the red pants. And yes, indeed, can’t wait to find a new winter coat!!!

      Thanks so much Judy 🙂

Oh haircuts that one regrets! From my mid teens, I have always had long hair, very long at one point. It has just got shorter as I have got older, but always (apart from one venture into layers after I had a baby and my hair was thin) a bob. How I regretted the layers! Bobs are so forgiving, miss a trim for a couple of weeks and they don’t look too bad, little maintenance needed. To me, you don’t quite look yourself with the current hair! My favourite look was your shoulder to chin length. I do think you could rock a short and spiky look though! Very envious of the Phool dress.

Hi Margaret. Do you know, I have always regretted layers so this shouldn’t have been a surprise to me – that it didn’t work! I mean I googled short hair styles for older women for hours, but to no avail as it is just not right for me. I’m growing it out. The comments helped a lot but I also looked at some past pix from only a few months ago. Yup, all one length suits. Anyway, phew and three cheers, as my hair grows quickly, so it’ll take a few months but I know I’ll get there.

I shall grow it back to exactly where you say you liked it. Below the chin and near the shoulder. Can’t wait!!!

Thanks so much Margaret – your thoughts are much appreciated 🙂

try brushing fringe to the side and tucking hair behind your ears. think the red trousers are smashing, not the top though. it doesn’t look like you your style at all.the straps on the dress need to be taken up an inch or so to give it a more flattering look on you.

Love the dress but especially the blouse and trousers combo. Re hair, I prefer the shorter styles on you. I had he same problem and longer hair seems to drag the face down. The problem I’m finding with layering is the drying and styling and I think you have the same problem. Yours looks like it needs a bit more body and lift. Don’t grow it again. It does look nice.

The red trousers are so good, aren’t they! And £7!!! I won’t grow it long again, but I will grow the layers out – they never work on me and I realise that now with this cut. And yes, you’ve got it, I’m not very good at styling!

      Thanks Tricia 🙂

Not going back to the hairdresser. I asked for a radical cut and this is what I got. It’s weirdly all over the place and lop-sided too. No, I’m growing it back all one length. Thankfully my hair grows quickly.

Isn’t it awful when your hair goes wrong. I don’t feel myself at all. But I know I can change back to how it was, so I feel better about it already now I’ve made the decision.

I used to always have long black hair – but a shiny glossy black. When I had babies I had it trimmed a little shorter because of sticky fingers. I grew it longer again when we lived in Spain, as due to the humidity, waves turned into curles.
6 years ago I stood in the shower and my hair fell out all around me. I had had my third dose of chemotherapy for breast cancer. I sobbed, and my poor husband sobbed with me.
Now it has grown back. Oddly, though I’m now 74, it’s still black, though with a little grey starting to streak through it.
But it’s so fine! When it was growing back personally I liked it in its pixie cut stage. But my daughters didn’t think it was me and are encouraging me to grow it. But I don’t like it. It is so thin and fine now, and where the crown is, it seems very bare.
I’ll be honest. My hair was my favourite bit about me – my only favourite bit! And now I’m sad to have lost it.
I think yours looks nice that length but agree it was perhaps nicer just a little longer. Enjoy your cruise.

Oh Stephanie, I feel so much for you. Your hair is your identity and having it fall out must have been so traumatic. Now I know all daughters are lovely and have their views, but I do think you should follow your feelings, as in, what does your gut feeling tell you about your hair, and maybe try a shorter style. Or whatever. A pixie cut might be exactly you.

But I know how you feel, my hair is, or was, one of my best assets and I don’t feel myself with this cut and the layers. So I’m growing it back.

Anyway, I always say, wear what you want, just go for it. This time I’m saying, you have the hairstyle that you feel comfortable with. And if you can find a good hairdresser who understands thinning hair – that would be so good.

Wishing you the very best and thank you so much for your thoughts on my hair 🙂

Penny, what a gorgeous blouse and dress, they both look fab, you do so well with your charity purchases.
Hair styles are such a pain, and I think most women get a tad irritated when their hair isn’t right! If you think the front is good but not the back, try pinning the back away and see if you like the shorter look? You could ask for an inverted bob, shorter at the back, tapering down to the current length at the front. If you don’t think that looks good, bite the bullet and persevere with growing it, do you use any styling tools? Hot brushes or tongs might help. I used to love my inverted bob. But now my hair seems to be reverting to the curls I had in my youth and it’s so hard to keep in a style I’m letting it grow and encouraging the curls, plus the length hides my jowls and saggy chin! Good luck x

Thanks Linda. the dress was such a find, as were the red trousers. Oh hair is such a bind when it goes wrong as this style has.

And an inverted bob sounds great – I definitely want a more edgy style instead of this all-over the place mess. It just isn’t me at the moment and I feel quite discombobulated (love that word!). so I’ve decided to grow it out, and feel better for that decision. Don’t have any tongs or hot brushes and not sure if I’ll get any because of growing it.

Thanks much for your thoughts which are much appreciated 🙂

Although I only lost some at the back underneath my hair (which is growing back) has changed after radiotherapy and drugs. Like Stephanie’s it is now very thin and – horrors – curly and I don’t like it at all. It’s been white for 20 years & when I could have it short I was OK with that. I always felt that it ‘lifted’ my face and neck considerably but that may have been wishful thinking ! I hate the bob style which I feel I now need to cover my one prominent ear caused by surgery. I’m going back to the hairdresser soon to try to improve how it looks. I think you probably need something a bit more ‘edgy’ Penny to go with your style. As someone else suggested that may be down to styling and products as well as cut. I use a thickening blow-dry lotion and a hot air brush so much more time and effort than I was used to before.

Oh Lynda, hair is so entwined with our identity. It’s awful when it goes wrong. I don’t feel myself at all and think it shows in the recent photos. It sounds as though you’ve got a good hairdresser. Don’t think I’ll go back to mine as the style is all over the place and lop-sided too. Sticking it behind my ears improves it a bit and possibly I could go pixie. I do want to look more edgy and this style is both so wrong and boring!!! So I have decided to grow it out. And feel better for that decision

I do hope you can sort out your hair style, Lynda, it is important and I can honestly say I do know how you feel about your hair. Good luck with the styling. On this we are on the same page.

I’d either do something very edgy to go with what you say you want your style to be or let the front bits grow to just above chin length and style it with a round bush (like your iconic picture with hat and mirror accompanying the blog). I think you need to add some volume to the style.

Great finds love the red trousers. Cut your hair yourself I’ve been doing it for 30 odd years it’s the only way I get what I like. At the moment it’s a bit like yours but I often layer it by grabbing a sort of pony tail on top of my head and cutting it off. It’s thick and I often get compliments and more importantly I’m happy with it. I used to run home from the salon and stick my head under the tap.

Hi Penny, I’ll jump in here with a couple of observations. First, the two purchases. The Phool dress is perfect for you. I think you will enjoy it for years. In chilly weather, I can visualize a black high-neck thin sweater under it. Simple drop black jet earrings. Simple black shoes. You can carry the contrast level so well.

Okay, I will venture to say the soft print of the green blouse seems unexciting. Sort of lost on you. The loud pants are fun and I love them because they made me smile. I think they need a strong print top with some of the red in it to make an outfit. The green blouse doesn’t do it. They are all I saw as I scrolled because they were wearing you not the other way around. No top now? Pop on a black top and your red glasses and you ‘d have a snazzy outfit. Let the single color be the show instead of over-accessorizing.

Hair: definitely one of your best features. I winced when I first read you were contemplating layers. Then sorry to see them. Because of the good texture of your hair you can wear all one length (expertly cut, of course. Not a do-it yourself project because you can’t see the growth pattern, which is a mistake many women do not know.)

The caveat is that it is not flattering if it is longer than chin length. About like your profile picture. Good c-shape bend there. It breaks the vertical line that seems to drag your face down. The present bangs and hair curving inward along with the eyeglasses, which have to be factored in to your overall look, seem to smother you.

A pixie cut? Oh, I hope not. Such would not highlight your hair and I think dealing with it would frustrate you, especially when you take off your hat. Like “bed hair” that never ends. Grow-out due to regret would take years.

As for me, yes, I have had some bad cuts. I worked at Nordstrom years ago so I had my hair cut by a guy in their salon. He thinned it so fiercely that half my locks were on the floor. Later, a co-worker explained that the guy did that often and that he really doesn’t like women. I grumbled for at least a year.

Here in Ecuador, long hair is the revered norm. Best if the women resist doing silly things like bleaching black glossy hair to be ash blond. Very very few grey hair ladies except older women who never fuss and have it only by default. Most color theirs. They buy a box and produce a soot-colored noggin that they think keeps them looking young. Not.

I have salt and pepper hair, which is healthy. Lots of it. Almost to my shoulders. Since it tends to fall and ‘decorate’ my clothes, I wear it back.

When I was still living in the U.S. years ago, I parked in front of a small classy salon and sat for a minute before getting out to do my errands. The owner walked a patron to her car right next to mine and said a pleasant goodbye. Since she was right there I complimented her beautiful look. She explained how much she appreciated the man for his forthright and courteous manner and his skilled work. “He educated me how to style my hair and what it would do and not do. He took everything into consideration , including all of me as it related to my hair. Priceless. Never in it for the money, it seems. I think he just works for the love of it. He doesn’t need money because he is well-fixed. He should be teaching.”

On a whim, I entered his shop (he had no employees) and stood in the doorway. He smiled. I did, too. Boom. I asked, “Bangs or no bangs?”

He instantly replied, “Absolutely, NO bangs! I saw you as you got out of your car. The first thing I noticed was that the pulled-back classic style is perfect for you. Maybe only one in fifty women could wear it. Come in and sit down. I’ll show you why it works for you.” He brushed my hair and played with it. He invested half an hour explaining all aspects of my hair specifically related to face shape, and body type. He loved doing it. Such a kind, humble person! He walked me to the door and wished me well.

I sent him a card explaining how valuable it was to me and how much I appreciated him. He ‘paid it forward’ and I considered his example as a lesson to do the same in many ways.

Thanks for sharing your adventures, Penny. Always a pleasure to read them.

    Love,

    Elaine

That’s a wonderful story, Elaine! RE: the green blouse – yes, so many comments say the same thing. I get it! And actually I think that I can ring the changes with several lovely black tops – they will make a great contrast with the flaming red.

Now, back to the hair. It is so interesting that the Americas revere long hair. That style suits some but not everyone. And colouring it dark as you go grey never works. Anyway, I have stuck my hair behind my ears and it is the temporary solution and yesterday someone actually complimented me about this style behind the ears, which, you can imagine, made my day but natch – no pixie cut – phew, and absolutely no, think of the time it would take to grow it out. But I am growing this untidy not-very-good layered cut out and will never ever have layers cut again. You’d think I’d learn my lesson as I NEVER look good with layers!!!!

Thanks Elaine. I love the way you comment and that tale….. I really appreciate what you advise 🙂

My first thought – if you’re anywhere near a wig stockist, you could try a few on, see what you like (maybe on your next London visit). Then go for that as a cut.
There’s an American blogger, “Atypical 60” who, because of hair loss, wears wigs all the time. She has a huge selection, and often posts about them.
I’ve never enjoyed hair-dresser visits but my daughter is always ruthlessly honest with me – once my hair gets to a certain length, I get “the look”, and I know it’s time to go for a cut. She describes it as “auld wifie” (old woman) hair. It’s naturally curly/wavy, but due to alopecia, I’ve lost a lot at the sides and the front, and what’s left in those areas tends towards frizziness unfortunately. I have to have at least a partial fringe now else I look like an egg if the wind blows in my face 😁 It’s got a fair bit of silver through it which I quite like but only in the areas where I’ve lost hair.
My oldest g’son recently graduated and there’s a couple of photos where you can see the back of my head, and it looks fab – thick, shiny, very dark, just the way all my hair once looked.

Not near a wig stockist. Yes, I regularly read Catherine at Atypical 60 – she is such role model for women who have thinning hair and bald patches. Apparently wigs from the States are superb and very much better than anything you can get in the UK. That’s such a shame.

Oh gosh, I do feel for you and your hair issues. Hair is such a part of one’s identity. I think you’ve gone about it the best way you can, and it’s great you follow Atypical 60 as she is just the best advertisement for wigs!

Oh how I love the dress, Penny! Is it bias cut? It really suits you and I expect you’ll get pleasure and plenty of opportunities to wear it for years to come. I’m very envious!
I can’t really advise on your hair, except to say the shorter bob looked good and your hair is a decent texture, so it’s down to how YOU feel about it. I agree with Elaine about having a pixie style, once it’s cut it will take years (of regret) to grow it again if you don’t like it. There’s been a useful suggestion of trying wigs to see what suits.

That dress is such a find and I love it! Don’t think it’s cut on the bias but I know what you mean, it looks as though it could be but it is much kinder to the figure than a bias cut.

The shorter length is better for me but layers do not suit me and especially this cut – so disappointed with it! I am growing it out. Meanwhile I have stuck it behind my ears and that is a bit better.

Penny, please, please, pleeze (sic) listen to Elaine’s comments on this weeks get-ups! She is 100 percent right about the blouse and trousers and her ideas for your hair are equally valid. She would do well as a style counsellor!
Like you, I wear glasses and recently shortened my hair to just below my chin and it sure covers a multitude of old lady bloopers! No fringe, just a Veronica Lake (remember her?) side parting and a wash’n’wear is all that’s required as I have no idea how to blow-dry. Your hair is much thicker than mine so it would surely hang beautifully as even my ancient locks look okay with such a loose but easy (and flattering) style. I like the idea of a pixie cut but always think the back can look dodgy if one’s hair doesn’t grow in the right direction, like having a double or even triple crown, or it gets greasy quickly so perhaps have a long think about that one although I did like Linda’s suggestion of an inverted bob…

I loved Elaine’s hairdresser story. I have one who’s pretty good too, in his own way. Has a tendency to say it like it is though. “Is my hair getting thinner?” I asked recently. “Course it is,” he said, “you’re getting old, what do you expect?” 😵‍💫 He then proceeded to cut my hair so well that even two-three months later while it might be a lot longer, I know it will still hold its shape. For that alone he’s a keeper!
Like a lot of ladies have said, discuss your next move with your hairdresser. Er, maybe not the one who gave you your current style? Maybe he or she could have persuaded you towards a less severe direction, or perhaps he or she just did as they were told?! As for trying new styles via a wig session, what a brilliant idea!
    Good luck!

Hi Penny, Love, love, luv the dress. Black shawl for cooler weather, or black jacket or cardigan would work well also. Green blouse, eh, not so much, but those red pants are fab. Paired with black anything (or everything) on top would be smashing. Blouse is very sweet, demure and pleasant, but………

Like the idea of a reverse bob with somewhat shorter in the back. It would make it all look fuller. Agree with comments about product, tools, method of using blow dryer, etc., to see what happens first, before any major changes. Chin length on you is wonderful. Energizing! And yes, I have had my share of bad haircuts, one where the stylist shaved one side of my head for a fashion show, but it all grows out with time and patience, which I am somewhat short of! Thanks.

Seeing your post this morning cheered me up. We have had two days of gloom here and there is so little of summer left. I liked seeing your cheery colors and lovely dress, and plans for celebratory occasions and even another cruise. Tuesday night’s dinner with all the family present was wonderful and I think I am feeling the letdown one feels after such an event is over.
You really do have good hair. I have liked the recent cuts, I wouldn’t let it get really long again, There are probably exceptions but for most women as they age this is not a good look for them. And with such good hair I hope you do not go for the pixie. I wonder if there are women of any age who are really happy with their chosen style and not thinking about how it might be more attractive. I think, based on your photos that this current cut is attractive. I know what you mean about not liking it from the back. I feel that way about my hair now. I haver more or less settled into a bob, if I let it grow out much below my chin I think it drags my face down. Years ago I had a hair disaster. I guess it was in the late 80’s and curly hair was the rage so I permed my hair. After it grew out I went to have it done again. There was a new stylist that day and I questioned as to why she had reversed that order of procedures from the last time. I was anxious. I was told that they were always coming up with new and better procedures. Well, my worry was not unfounded, when the hair was revealed my hair was burnt and my then natural dark hair was a orange brown. A disaster. And the next day was to be my 40th birthday! Two years ago my hairdresser of many years apparently retired and I had to find someone new. I do like my current stylist, but still wonder if I might like something a bit more edgy, some layers perhaps. My daughter keeps urging me to try her person, so who knows. Anyway, that’s it for now. As always sending love from New York, Darby

I always enjoy your posts Derby. I know what you mean about the aftermath of an event. Both my daughter and I cried on and off for a couple of days after her wedding. There had been such a lot of uncertainty with my illness & her difficult search for a dress. What a hair disaster! My Mum had a perm just before going on a cruise and they burned her forehead with the lotion: she was very upset.

Like yourself I had long hair. I had it cut to skim my shoulders on advice from my hairdresser who knows when I get cut shorter he doesn’t see me for 6 – 9 months till it grows again.
For what it is worth don’t go pixie it will take forever to grow it again.
    I liked it longer.

    Morning Penny
Congratulations on your recent finds – both terrific bargains and useful items. I particularlty like the dress – comfy and stylish and can be worn pretty much anywhere these days. It would have been ideal for the Murder Mystery Evening we enjoyed earlier in the year (everyone in costume and role.)

The dress looks as though it won’t crease – also useful for packing. I smiled when I read ‘next cruise’ … sounds like your heart is already there. Btw – you said it wasn’t to Norway but didn’t say where you’re off to. I find trousers/pants very useful when travelling: one pair, several tops, change of accessories …

Regards your hair: commisserations! I know that feeling of ‘hair not right’. In fact I’m off to try a new hairdresser today. It doesn’t matter that others think my hair looks nice … it doesn’t feel right to me! Does your hair grow fairly quickly? If it so, and you like Judi Dench’s short style, I’d say go for it. If not, it’ll be a long road back and I’d urge caution. A couple of months ago I saw Emma Thompson with a new ‘do’ which I rather liked but my hair hardly grows so that’s a non starter for me. My hair is relatively easy to manage – if ony I can find a style I like. I’m intending to look at style books in the salon and talk to the stylist. I think my locks are looking dull – I’d like a silver shine.
Anyway, good luck I look forward to seeing your new hair style in due course, Mary

I love the leopard print dress and also feel most comfy in ones that skim the tummy. Your hair is cute this way. I was a fan of your longer hair too. Maybe somewhere in the middle. I would not recommend going even shorter because then if you do not like it it will take even longer to grow out.

The leopard print dress is so good on you Penny and it will be so versatile. As others have said not sure about the top maybe it needs lighter coloured pants to show its details.
Sorry your hair cut has not gone as well as you hoped. Not sure what your stylist was going for as it really is not a good cut , not one thing or the other. I can see it back to a bob but shorter at the back then angled to give more shape , not just straight across.
Just wondering did you have a photo of what style you had in mind , I find this is the only way I seem to get what I am after. At least your hair grows quickly , lucky you.
P.S. Looking forward to November , will forward phone number when I have the travel one sorted.

Hi Penny…late to this party but I concur with those who say the dress is great on you! The red pants look good and have a nice drape but I just don’t care for it combined with the green shirt. The green shirt might show off better if with a lighter pant.
Regarding hair…yes, changing hairstyles is such a daunting task. I’m soooo glad you did NOT change it BEFORE your cruise!!
I’ve been wearing the same pixie cut for about 15 years. A fellow Asian stylist originally cut my hair to suit the way it grew, its thickness, and my face. I loved it. Four years ago, I moved and had to find a new stylist. After one trial and error, I found my current stylist who is a delight in a sweet one-stylist shop behind a residential home. It’s a renovated guesthouse. It’s a delightful place in a welcoming garden. I enjoy each visit. And my pixie is not stagnant under her capable hands. Right now, she went shorter (!) for summer. Im thankful that it will grow back!
Yes, our hair, it’s styling, and it’s health can make an impact on our outlook. My heart goes out to the women whose hair is impacted by health or hereditary issues. Reading the comments above, I was particularly struck by Stephanie Morris’s comment about losing her hair due to cancer treatments and her husband joining her in weeping over its loss. Such sweet empathy and tender love.
And on that poignant note, I’ll close, Penny. Hoping the growing out process won’t be too maddening, Charlene

Penny, that leopard print dress is divine! You look spectacular in it, too! I think you could wear this so many places depending on what you wear with it. Combat boots and a casual jacket would be fabulous and definitely reads Penny! Dressing it up with heels (or as high as you go) would give a completely different look. I do love those red pants, and I really like the floral top. I think they probably would look better with different pieces. They seem to be combatting each other for center stage. As for your hair, I’m no expert. I think you look lovely with long hair as well as with short hair. I just can’t get over how quickly it changes for you. My hair takes forever to grow. I’m regretting cutting it short and with bangs (fringe). It will take a while to grow it out.

Hello Penny, just a thought have you tried putting your hair up – an updo in modern parlance – just with a jumbo clip or maybe into a french roll (!) – I wear mine up all the time these days – lazy hair I call it – you can then nearly forget about it all day. A friend back combs and sprays hers a bit to give it fullness and then tucks it up – easy. BTW thanks in advance for all of your future writings and your past exploits – very enjoyable and all the amazing pictures of the clothes that you seem to find. All the very best to you and Mr. F – Regards Angela C.

The way I look affects the way I feel. And I don’t like my haircut at the moment either. Probably ok as a cut but I don’t like it. I was trying to go shorter (why? I hate all those over 60 cuts you see online) but I’m going to revert to a longer bob.

I love the leopard dress – really suits you – but not the other outfit – too droopy overall. Neater top with baggy trousers I always think, even if the top is just asymmetrically tucked in.
