Hello again
And now for the best buy of the holiday! On the sale rail of the first boutique we went to was this dress.

It has the word Fashion printed all over the top.

And a faux leather edge.

Wow, I just pounced on it as the dress is so utterly me! It cost all of 10 Euros. I wore it on our last full day of our holiday when we travelled not far from the village to a lovely part of the country side and a restaurant set in a beautiful vinery known as a bodega.

Here I am inside the restaurant.

And afterwards we sat outside enjoying the beautiful scenery and blues skies. Oh my word, those blue skies. I say that because we’ve returned to a week of our usual grey skies, cold winds and plenty of rain!

But in Spain – the weather is different!

The village, Niguelas, is small with well under 2000 inhabitants but it is a lucky village as it has a good source of water. There is always a penalty for the glorious weather Spain has, with not much in the way of rain, water is scarce everywhere.

Here are some scenes from a viewing point.

It is a stunning landscape.

That blue sky!

And this below is where the party was held, the one we went to half way through our holiday.

We felt very privileged to be there and thankful to have such lovely generous and hospitable friends.

That’s all about the holiday. It was so good to see another country that is so different to the one where we live. They say travel broadens the mind – it certainly does!
With love, Penny, the Frugalfashionshopper
P.S. Next week I intend to focus on skirts as on Sunday (my birthday) I am getting a lovely maxi and very flowery skirt (bought in Spain). But I also like skirts that are in a monochrome hue. Watch this space for my deliberations on what looks best π

I miss living in South West France. Blue skies, wide spaces. From my first house I could see the snow tops of the Pyrenees. At night so many stars as no light pollution. Shopping in the local market each week for the freshest foods, hand made goats cheeses @ β¬1 each.
So glad you enjoyed your holiday, beautiful views.
Yes we also saw the stars at night – one evening we went up to their top terrace and watched the stars. It was all so unpolluted by light and lovely. I get what you miss! Those blue skies were amazing plus the warmth. We’ve returned to quite a cold spell of weather here in the south with winds from the north – brrr!
Thanks Pauline π
That dress is very you, Penny. Weβre off to Lake Garda in June where weβll celebrate our Golden wedding simply with a couple of our friends who have been there every step of the way. I look forward to seeing your maxi skirts as, in my wisdom, I donated all but one of mine at the end of last summer.
How lovely to go to Lake Garda – congratulations for your Golden Wedding anniversary.
The dress was a great find. I do think long floral skirts are strictly for the hot weather – but more about that next week.
Thanks Anne π
It looks wonderful! I love Spain, not the Costa s. On another note….I watched a old episode of The inspector Linley mysteries yesterday. It played in Dungeness!! With steam train and all. I was thrilled!
Oh wow, will have to look for that episode!
Spain is gorgeous and so warm. We’re having a cold spell at the moment – brrr!
Thanks Nancy π
Penny I think that dress is fabulous on you as apart from anything else the style suits you so much.
Its stylish and youthful but not too youthful at the same time. I live in Milan and that sort of style is not so unusual here.
Lovely pictures of Spain, I can imagine that the air quality was wonderful.
Many thanks Penny
The air was wonderful and the skies so blue – and so different to the UK. Loved that difference as it was good to see and experience the new!
The dress was a great find!
Thanks Charmaine π
Hello Penny. I love your posts and so look forward to reading them and this latest of yours did certainly not disappoint. What a fabulous week you have had and I hope you are both feeling better for your holiday. I love your new dress it looks so good on you.
Looking forward to your next post.
Much love Cath
Hi Cath – that dress was a great find.
It was so good to experience new things and see a country you don’t really know with the help of friends – that was so helpful.
And thank you so much for those kind words about the blog π
I love that you talk about the skies. We have that a lot and I think I don’t appreciate it as much because we are used to it. So thank you for the nudge to be grateful for what we have.
And that dress is incredible. It makes me think that you could add leather like that to other dresses to create a cool design.
OXOX

The thing is we do have blue skies, but definitely not every day as it rains so often here. And when the blue skies come it is rare for them be vibrantly blue with not a cloud in the sky – here they can be quite a watery blue with many a cloud appearing. But funnily enough although I’m not enjoying this current cold spell I do like the variety we have. I think I might get bored with the same weather every day and, don’t forget, the Brits love this variety of weather as it gives them something to moan about!!!!
That dress was such a good find!
Thanks Jodie π
Fabulous dress Penny and yes, very you!
Thank you so much Lise π
Fabulous dress Penny xx
Thank you so much Vivien π
Dress is super and made for you. Spain is luscious as we did a tour there and loved it all. What fun! Claire
That dress was a such a great find! Spain is indeed luscious and very lovely. AND so warm – we’ve returned to a cold spell – brr!
Thanks Claire π
Wow!!! That dress is amazing and definitely you, Penny! You look absolutely glorious in it! I have always wanted to go to Spain, but Mike has never wanted to go that badly. Perhaps, in the future, I can talk my friend or one of my kids into going. How nice you were able to stay with good friends. Those photos of the sky and the surrounding landscape are fabulous! I think I might be tempted to move there! Thanks so much for sharing them with us, and I can’t wait for next week’s post!
Happy early birthday!

The dress was such a good find!
Spain is glorious. The landscape around the village is very awe-inspiring to a Brit who is used to gentle and very green rolling hills. This landscape was stark and rugged and very, very different. I thought the whole area was amazing. But (and now I’m whispering this) I also found it overpowering at times and a teensy bit scary. I am, I admitted to my friends, basically a city girl, who likes streets and architecture, and sitting, people-watching in plazas, going shopping and visiting art galleries and museums. That is my idea of heaven. But hey it is good to open yourself up to new experiences.
And thank you Marsha for that early birthday greeting π
Hello Penny
Like everyone else, I think your dress is great, and so very you. What a find!
And I too had a good ‘find’ when browsing in a bookshop last week. I came across a beautifully illustrated book about Derek Jarman’s cottage where you and Mr F stay in Dungeness! I expect there’s a copy on the shelves there already so you’ll have seen it but it was new to me and I found it most interesting. (I have got the right place, haven’t I?)
I was sorry to learn that you found countryside Spain a bit scary. What a shame, but you obviously didn’t let it spoil your holiday. Funnily enough, I felt uncomfortable some years ago when walking round Glastonbury (the town) and Walsingham in Norfolk also affects me; I have no inclination at all to stop and look round. I have no idea why, but I feel uneasy in both places. Is it thee, or is it me, do you think?!

Hello Penny, that dress really was made with you in mind , it looks so good on you.
Pleased you saw that part of Spain at its best weather wise and not in the torrid Summer heat. As we found on our last trip , although we were in the north, when it rains it pours endlessly.
How wonderful to have friends to stay with and show you what life there really is like.
I will look forward to your skirt post , a love we both share.
Wishing you all the very best for a Happy Birthday . xx
Isn’t is wonderful when you find something that is so completely you! great find. I was also impressed by your friends outfit, that lace skirt and the scarf to match her hair. That is truly a beautiful place you were in, now I want to travel again. Here we have a had a few happy family get togethers, and the most special was my granddaughter’s graduation from college. Soon she will be heading to Washington to teach, having her own life. Love, Darby
