Another month, another Vogue falls from my letterbox to the floor with a thump. Like Invisible Woman<\/a>, I read Vogue so you don\u2019t have to, but I do pity the poor postie as this month\u2019s Vogue is as thick as a brick. It\u2019s the International Collections Special with 460 pages of \u2018fashion, style and beauty\u2019 (a lot of ads actually) and there is nothing in it that grabs my fancy apart from some lovely long winter coats, which they say will be on-trend this Autumn. Yes, we\u2019ve reached the month of August and winter clothes are beginning to appear in the fashion media. I do admit that there\u2019s some amazing knitwear in this month\u2019s Vogue, although with the coats at between \u00a3500-\u00a3800 and one of the knits (a sweater dress) at \u00a35,660 I think I\u2019ll be searching the charity shops for something similar.<\/p>\n

I note that two month\u2019s ago the theme in Vogue was Ageless Style. Hmm. I believe the editor\u2019s stance is that Ageless Style is not about what we should be wearing at certain ages, no, the words are meant to imply that one can be stylish at any age, and a piece featuring Mariel Hemingway<\/a> (aged 52) indeed, states that this month (July) Vogue celebrates women of all ages. \u00a0But nowhere within the magazine did I see anyone remotely \u2018old\u2019, although there is an ad with Andie MacDowell <\/a>(aged 56) showing faint lines around her eye, so for me that edition was a disappointing read. Let\u2019s give a big huzzah then for the Guardian who regularly features Jean Woods <\/a>(aged 76) in their Fashion for All Ages<\/a>. Come on Vogue, you say you\u2019re aspirational, what about us over 65s who aspire to ageless style?\u00a0\u00a0 Go on, next time you talk about ageless style use someone with elegance and a few real wrinkles like Jean \u2013 why not!<\/p>\n

\"black-with-flowers-web\"<\/a>Dresses that can evoke an ageless style are not difficult to find in charity shops and I mentioned that I\u2019d found one recently for \u00a32.00 – and here it is. Can you see the label, it\u2019s a Yessica dress from C&A.<\/a> As the last C&A store closed in the UK in 2001 this is an old, old dress. And I can tell it is because, I\u2019m a UK size 12 and at a push and a squeeze can even wear a size 10. But this dress, at size 14, is tight and it\u2019s a bit of struggle to do up the zip. (I\u2019m sure you all know that, over the years, as we\u2019ve got bigger so have the sizes.<\/a>) Never mind once done up it\u2019s fine, and I\u2019m pleased to support the charity shop and wear something that was fashionable some time ago and, in a way, is the epitome of ageless style \u2013 well done C&A, we kind of miss you.<\/p>\n
