The beginning of the month and another hat. \u00a0I see Judith Boyd<\/span><\/a> has chosen a Spring hat for her #hat attack<\/span> <\/a>session, but mine is still very much a winter hat. \u00a0It is harder, I think, to find spring and summer hats, apart,\u00a0that is, from the ubiqutous floppy-brimmed sun hat, of which I did find one a week ago, which will feature later this year.<\/p>\n

Anyway walking down my favourite High Street (not in Brighton or Lewes, or London, for that matter) I saw this hat in a charity shop window and just had to try it on.<\/p>\n

Wow! \u00a0What a brilliant colour and the price, \u00a33.99!<\/p>\n

What I notice though (which you may or may not) is how lined my face has become over this winter.<\/p>\n

I mean who is this old lady in this photo? \u00a0I don’t recognise this person. \u00a0But, ‘stop there’, I said to myself, ‘it is<\/em> you’. And what’s more, I started this blog for many reasons, one of which was to examine ageing including my ageing, and I will be 70 in June, so what do I expect? \u00a0Even so I think this winter with the lack of sun and the cough and the virus has been quite hard on my system and my face. \u00a0Never again will I say that my favourite season is winter!<\/p>\n

Tricia Cusden in her latest blog<\/span> <\/a>talks about that dreadful phrase ‘anti-ageing’ and how at odds it is\u00a0with reality, and how we should take the positive stance and counter all this anti-ageing tosh. And what do I want? \u00a0 Botoxed paralysed muscles or a flexible, animated face, which I think I have when I talk (I also wave and flap my arms around a lot!!!!).<\/p>\n

And yes, I am out and proud and loud about my age – why wouldn’t you be? \u00a0The whole point of this blog is that we shouldn’t hide away, we approaching 70 year-olds. \u00a0This is 70 and, with or without a hat, we make a statement about our age.<\/p>\n

And it’s not only a positive statement it’s a blast against ageism.<\/p>\n

But it’s also a great hat!<\/p>\n
