    Who made your clothes?

    True Cost DVD

I haven’t bought any charity shop clothes for some time. I’ve looked but kept to two of my golden rules: i) don’t drop your standards, and ii) only buy exactly what you need. And I succeeded in not saying, ‘oooh I

    Film night outfit

Hi there Our last film of the season was the amazing, and slightly bonkers, Grand Budapest Hotel, directed by Wes Anderson.  The Hillcrest Film Society now has a break until October when we’ll have another set of 10 films to

A few maintenance things I do

After my last post someone said to me, ‘you could stain your legs’, and described how her mother used tea, and then a brown pencil to imitate the back seam of those old-fashioned stockings. Wow, that was an evocative glimpse

Hello again I thought I ought to get this post to you before the end of the month.  I help to run a small film society, and our film for June was ‘Cycling with Moliere‘ which was delightful and, unsurprisingly,

Another London trip and an update on the new-look blog

Gosh, it’s taking a wee bit longer than we anticipated to change the look of the blog, as even the IT wiz Mr frugalfashionshopper is finding it a bit of a challenge. But it is happening and you’ll be the

Who remembers Laurence Corner and the fashion for military coats and jackets?

    My grandfather's mess jacket

When I was younger I didn’t seek out charity shops – did they even exist in the 60s? If they did I never went into one. But I did wear second-hand clothing because I did frequent, what we call in

    A London trip

    A London trip

I was in London last week. It’s 50 years since I started nursing (yes, I am that old) and I was meeting up with around 30 of the April 1965 set. Gosh, I was young then in more ways than

Charity shop shopping – it just makes sense

Every now and then I go out shopping for something that’s not second-hand. I’ve had quite an expensive month, what with going to a physio (my back is improving but it’s all about the morning exercises because I missed a

    About Me

My name is Penny, I am 78 years old and I live in Lewes, East Sussex. My reasons for writing a fashion blog is that I have built up a great wardrobe on very little money mainly because I buy from charity shops.

So my blog will feature the clothes I have found since I retired, and the clothes that I continue to find in my local charity shops. From time to time I will also comment on issues around women and ageing.
