    Jackets – I love them

I do like a tailored jacket and by that I mean a buttoned-up, nipped-in-the-waist kind of jacket. And before you say, I can’t wear something like that because of my size, there’s a friend of mine who wouldn’t mind me

My response to Lynette’s post. The joys of charity shop shopping in the UK!

I thought I’d comment on Lynette’s post but have so much to say it’s turned into a post all of it’s own! You can see from Lynette’s piece (published 7th April) that there’s quite a difference between shopping in a

I’m delighted to introduce my first guest blog, on the challenges of charity shop shopping in the States, written by my friend, Lynette, who is the successful writer of not one but two blogs!  Read all about her and get

Facelift or filler – er, no thanks – there’s plenty else we can do!

My blog seems to be evolving from being about (frugal) fashion to more of a critique of ageism, alongside some tales of how I’m managing my ageing (or not).  However, from time to time I’ll be including my best charity

    Skirts – frilly or sleek?

From some of the posts I’ve written you might assume that much of my wardrobe is full to bursting with multi-layered frilly skirts.  But, I’m ruthless at getting rid of things I don’t wear, so my clothes cupboard isn’t as

The grey days of February – why not bring a little colour into your wardrobe?

I’ve had a couple of days away this week and the sun has shone for several hours and the skies were blue, and it was just such a pleasure to have some light and brightness in the sky.  The British

A trip to London: a style icon observed and my skin examined

I went to London, Wednesday last, to an exhibition on the style icon and muse Isabella Blow.  Not a particularly brilliant day weather-wise.  For those of you reading the blog outside the UK, we don’t have hurricanes here – well

De-cluttering your wardrobe – it can feel great!

How good are you at throwing out clothes you never wear?  Do you keep a favourite dress, and can’t bear to part with it, even though it doesn’t fit?  Are there jackets and trousers, that you might just use for

How to shop – in a charity shop!

We all know how to shop, don’t we, and heaven forefend that I be seen as teaching grandmothers to … you know, but as you walk into a charity shop what do you see – a mix of colours and

New Year’s resolutions for myself, plus a fur coat story!

Now for a light hearted look at resolutions for myself in 2014. Exercise Yes, exercise.  You know, there are times when I do more of this in my head than in reality!  I say I do yoga and the senior’s gym

    About Me

My name is Penny, I am 78 years old and I live in Lewes, East Sussex. My reasons for writing a fashion blog is that I have built up a great wardrobe on very little money mainly because I buy from charity shops.

So my blog will feature the clothes I have found since I retired, and the clothes that I continue to find in my local charity shops. From time to time I will also comment on issues around women and ageing.
