Hello everyone
We’re taking a short break in France (Toulouse and Lot valley) and I’m packing today. I’ve got my clothes ready but it’s the hat I’m dithering about. Which one to take, as the weather in France could vary between wet, dry, warm and cold. So should it be:
A beret – easy to pack and easy to wear.
Or this winter favourite?
Two things: living in Brighton I take the bus a lot, and it’s cold waiting for it. But at the bus stop, and once on, I see very few hats of any kind. But second, I’m not wearing my bolder hats so much, which is mainly because in these colder months the hat has to be rammed down over my ears to keep out that damp cold wind, and that’s a pity as I have so many wide-brimmed hats. So here are a few:
There’s this.
And this pale fedora – good for the Spring, I think.
Or this: that was me waiting to go on board ship, exactly one year ago!
Or even wider brimmed?
Or perhaps one for the rain?
Actually I’ll definitely take a beret. And after looking at these pix I think it’s the grey one although I’m packing a lot of black so should it be the black fedora, which incidentally I bought in Toulouse 3 years ago!
Likewise I’m still dithering about the coat as it will definitely rain in France but it could be a warmer than here. Decisions, decisions! And I’m very likely to buy a hat in France as I always like to look at my hats and remember the holiday and where it was bought.
So, after this post, you won’t hear from me for 2 weeks. Thank you so much, you lovely people, for all the comments you make. I hope to respond to all the ones made re: my last post. And possibly, just possibly, might also put up a very short piece on My Other Blog on Saturday – won’t say another thing about that subject here!
With love, Penny, the Frugalfashionshopper
Definitely the grey one.
Have a lovely time.
Ro
Oooh, thank you! It helps x
Both berets and a rain hat just in case! Have a wonderful break Penny.
The pink beret, or even take the grey one as well! Bon voyage you lucky thing!
The grey one is good. And I do like a beret. I wear them a lot. I have several, some woollen, some fluffy. They are so useful – easy to put in a bag just in case, easy to pull down over your ears if you need to!
Enjoy your trip.
It’s got to be a beret for La France. And buy one there.
Penny I love you in berets ( also my favourite headgear) but I do find the
Spotty one such fun. Hard choice eh? Take both.
Colour depends on your wardrobe choices but the Fedora and a beret, have a good time.
regards Chad
Definitely a beret, I love the pink one with your hair + a rain hat – have experienced some stinking downpours in Nice at end of March so imagine Toulouse & Lot could be similar. Looking forward to hearing all about your adventures there. Have a wonderful time!
Definitely the beret-I’m jealous as it’s the one style I don’t suit but it’s very Diane Keaton. Since I’m sitting on a bus dripping wet in Glasgow I also have to say the rain hat. Bon voyage. X
Mais bien sure , la baret! Have fun and enjoy!
Grey beret and spotty rain hat.. both so stylish and practical.
The grey beret, rain hat if you can squash it up to pack safely and definitely buy one (or two) there!
Hello, I have been following your blog for some time npw so hope you don’t mind me commenting. I think the beret and the fedora are both lovely on you. I haven’t worn a beret since my schooldays – too many associations! Have a wonderful trip – looking forward to seeing some photos on your return.
Whatever you take you’ll look glam.
Have a great trip and happy hat buying.
Penny,
I love the mauve beret (lovely with black) and definitely the rainhat. Even your back view is as gorgeous as your front one (that photo in the gallery). A touch of the Greta Garbo’s !! Have a great time.
Regards
Fran Whyte
Penny,
Wearing a hat is practicality with a huge dose of FUN.
The only challenge is choosing which one.
Attitude will obviously be no problem!
Have a great holiday. Judy @fancified.ca
The pink beret and the spotty rain hat. I do like the grey hat 👒 and your gorgeous yellow hat. Decisions! Have a fabulous time in France.
Enjoy your trip Penny xx
Pack a beret and rain hat and wear the grey fedora!
And have a good time
Have a great holiday Penny! Xxx
Ps love your hats!
In France? A beret is the one!
You really do suit hats, Penny.
I have that same coat – the navy/cream cardigan coat. So useful, I love it.
My choice would be both berets, perfect soft pastels for spring weather i hope you have. Thanks for sharing. Jacqui Mummabstylish
Wear the grey fedora if the wind drops, pack a beret AND while you’re there, treat yourself to another one. Or several!
Have a lovely time!
It’s cold at the moment where you are going I’m not a hat wearer but I’d say a beret. I live in Nice and nothing says English more than a hat here. Very few locals wear them.
Have a fab break, Penny!
I couldn’t choose one hat over the other as they’re all great and look fab on you but I suppose berets are the most practical…
xxxx
These are all such cute hat options! I love the black one!
