Looking back, looking forward

Looking back, looking forward

Hello again I wonder if you’re like me, and find yourself saying, ‘when we can, we’ll go out to…….’ (fill in assorted details of different places and experiences). More about that wish in the next post as we might indeed be able to go to a restaurant in the UK

Is shopping going to change from traipsing around the shops to online?

Is shopping going to change from traipsing around the shops to online?

Hello everyone The charity shop just around the corner from me has reopened, but have I gone in it?  No, and I won’t until the number of UK cases and deaths per day go significantly down, as in, far, far further down than our government trumpets at its daily nonsensical

What is this blog for?

What is this blog for?

Hello everyone I haven’t bought any clothes these last couple of weeks and, what with the drop in temperatures here in the UK, haven’t worn much other than my two new pairs of jeans with a variety of tops, so I thought that this post might look at what this blog

What’s your style?

Hi everyone As most of you know I wore jeans for several years after I retired and then slowly, over time, gathered together a sense of style that wasn’t work orientated (mainly suits) nor w/e relaxation and leisure (a variety of jeans). When I’m out and about I see a

Cold weather gear for walking into town

Cold weather gear for walking into town

Winter used to be my favourite season, but not so much now, however, I do like cold weather clothes.  And as the UK it’s getting just a bit cooler, I’ve begun to get out my winter clothes. I love wearing winter woollies!  But before you say I couldn’t wear wool

An outfit for just under £50!

Hi everyone Someone asked me for more outfits to inspire them, so I thought I’d show you a couple of recent buys, along with a jacket and top that I’ve had for ages. Remember, my ethos is that you don’t have to spend money to have a certain style.  On

Whatever your size you can never have enough blue jeans!

Invisible Woman wrote about jeans quite recently and the challenge of buying them for herself as she’s quite short and a UK size 12/14.  But even so she found some that fitted well and looked good on her.  (Her article has some great pics of her trying on various jeans and

How to shop – in a charity shop!

We all know how to shop, don’t we, and heaven forefend that I be seen as teaching grandmothers to … you know, but as you walk into a charity shop what do you see – a mix of colours and a mass (or mess) of styles, and you just don’t

Frocks. Part One. Reminiscence on a life without frocks!

For years I hardly possessed one frock.  For ten years it was a nurses uniform (of the white starched apron & frilly lace cap variety) and then, later, skirts and jackets for work.  And, always, jeans for home/off-duty/casual wear.  And for ages (OK, mainly when I was younger!) I even

About Me

My name is Penny, I am 74 years old and I live in Brighton, East Sussex. My reasons for writing a fashion blog is that I have built up a great wardrobe on very little money mainly because I buy from charity shops.

So my blog will feature the clothes I have found since I retired, and the clothes that I continue to find in my local charity shops. From time to time I will also comment on issues around women and ageing.
