Hello everyone
I hope you’re all keeping well and not too anxious considering the circumstances in the east of Europe. I have written a further post on My Other Blog on the situation, which as you know you access via the icon.
And in the meantime, my skirt arrived! Yay!!! It’s frivolous and frilly and a complete distraction to the dire news that surrounds us all. My thoughts go out to Ukrainians fleeing the war and well done Poland for being so welcoming, my lips and mouth are shut (for the moment, for the moment) on the UK’s response.
So three cheers for frivolity, and, dear readers, I wore the skirt on Sunday!
It was lovely and sunny on Sunday but cold, with a chilly wind, so I wore several layers: a thin black roll-neck top from M&S, a grey cashmere sweater bought from a charity shop years ago, and my lovely grey tweed charity shop jacket bought last year. Plus do not forget the studded boots and a woolly leopard print grey hat!
Yes, I really like this skirt styled with the colour grey.
Note my charity shop brooch and bracelet and the necklace bought second hand from a friend.
But here I am in just the black top and my very old charity shop faux leather jacket.
That’s a look I shall wear as Spring comes along. Here in the UK the lighter evenings are a delight and the daffodils are fully out now. I’m so thankful for those lovely bright yellow flowers.
That’s all for now, but I shall follow this post up very quickly with an end of the month review, maybe tomorrow, but more likely in a couple of days.
With love, Penny, the Frugalfashionshopper
Absolutely beautiful Penny. Yes the grey teamed with the colour of your skirt works very well. I also like the clean cut line of the jacket contrasting with the layered skirt.
I love your fashion blog and equally your other blog too. Many thanks
Thank you Charmaine, yes I love the jacket too. Actually I tried to sell it earlier in the winter but it was returned to me unsold. Phew, thank goodness for that as I realise that would have been a huge mistake! Thanks also for those kind words about the blogs.
You do have a such a solid sense of your style and eye for the fit, Penny! Your new skirt fits you perfectly! Bravo! I agree that stepping out in a more put-some-care-into it style for the day, puts more “umph” into one’s step!! The skirt is beautiful! The drape of the tulle and its cut is terrific. Again, bravo!
Hoping over to The Other Blog to visit with you more…
Charlene
Thank you Charlene, yes, I do like the skirt to be styled up in a more edgy way, prettying it up would be too much. And it is an amazing skirt!
Thanks for reading the other blog – it’s all a bit grim which is why it is so lovely to connect with people around the world. The Russian people don’t want this – it’s only one person, which is rather alarming. And that’s why thinking about a skirt is a great distraction!
skirt is lovely, though i’d like to suggest a belt.
Do you know that’s exactly what I thought when I looked more carefully at the shot with the leather jacket – thankfully I have exactly the right kind of belt to go with the skirt!
Thanks Sheila
Loving your skirt!!! Great choice for you.
Thank you so much Morag!
Love love love your skirt, where did you find it. I have been looking for a tulle skirt for ages. It’s fun and is one of those purchases that would just make you feel happy. I envy you the spring daffodils, here in Toronto we have deep snow still, and it’s bitterly cold, we have had this wretched trucker protest, and society is so divided. I stand in awes of the Ukraine and their amazing bravery and courage. The world is such a mess, but one has to believe that humanity will prevail and goodness will shine through the despair.
Thank you Penny for a lighthearted post to brighten our day, You look gorgeous in this out fit. Hugs from here.💙💛
Hi Geri I got the skirt from Hush https://www.hush-uk.com/floriza-ruffled-skirt-mauve/001463-0205.html
Was quite conflicted at the price but I think I shall wear this a lot, particularly with grey and I do feel happy wearing it (wore it on Sunday)
It’s a very grey morning here with a thick mist and rain forecast for the afternoon – typical British weather! Yes, I know how you feel – what with Covid still around, and now this. We have very poor calibre types filling the senior politician roles e.g. our Foreign Secretary who is such a lightweight – at this time!!! But the Russian people don’t want this so one can only hope….
And yes, that’s why it’s great to become enthralled with a skirt! Hugs to you Geri 💙💛
Absolutely gorgeous- well done! Nice to do something cheerful and fun- beautiful skirt, love the colour. 👍
Thank you so much Cathy. Exactly – this is absolutely the time to become obsessed with a skirt!!!!! It is fun to wear – thanks again!
Oh you bought it!! It’s gorgeous! And so you.
Awww – thank you Nancy!
That skirt is such a pretty colour! You’re right, it works a treat with grey, rock on girl xxx
Thank you so much Paulette, yes going for the rock chic vibe is the style to follow. Thanks 😄
You look fabulous Penny.
Oh it’s so nice to find something you really like xx
Thank you so much Vivien – yes, I really like it and will it a lot 😄
The skirt is beautiful Penny, it looks great on you and you styled it so well. I like the color. in the photos it seems to have a bit of a lavender tint which I like.
I am trying not to get too depressed, making an effort to live in the moment, take advantage of experiences which come my way. These last years have been so hard, the disbelief that we had such terrible leader, the pandemic and the isolation and constant worry and now the war. So trying to live day by day. Yesterday attended a concert, booked another in three weeks. It’s at a venue which I love and have have gone to in the past with a friend or partner. I usually have thought it too far to travel on my own but I will manage. Dress up a bit as well.
I will check out your other blog. You always have so much to say and have so much knowledge, Keep enjoying those daffodils! Love, Darby
Hi Darby – it’s a challenge at this moment to distract oneself. I read the Guardian but try and avoid any news on the television. Talking heads can be either too depressing for words or if they’re politicians most don’t really know what they’re talking about!
We can feel solidarity with all Ukrainians but we must try and not get too down. Think having treats ahead for oneself, like the concert you’ve booked, is the way to go. And great to hear you’ll dress up. I aim to do the same because, if not now when?
Wishing you all the very best Darby. Stay safe and sane, something I’m trying to do!!! 💙💛
You look delightful, Penny. I’m so glad you went for the skirt.

Thank you so much Veronica – yes me too, I’m so glad I bought it 😄
It’s a marvellous looking skirt with lots of ‘frivle’. I’m sure you’ll enjoy wearing it, and we all need a bit of frivolity at the moment. It’s also quite practical in colour as well. You have teamed it with greyer late winter things, but it will look adorable with hot pink or something equally as bright. Just don’t stand near too many sharp railings – they bite!😁
Oh gosh don’t need frivolity at this moment in time! Yes, you’re right some hot pink in the summer will be great with that skirt – I shall wear it a lot.
Thanks Trish 😄
It’s lovely Penny. I bought one very similar online, but it looked awful on me, so went to the charity pile.
Have a super week my friend.

I had to think would I wear the skirt before I bought it, and it felt good to order it as I knew I could send it back. Fortunately I love it and yes, it is lovely.
Thanks Jacqui x
It’s an absolutely lovely skirt, and I just adore how you styled it with the blazer and boots!!!

Thanks Jodie and yes, to pretty it up would be too much, hence the boots and the jacket!
I shall wear it a lot 😄
Oh, Penny! I’m so glad you bought that skirt! I can see many a stroll down the boardwalk in the weeks and months to come! You look so happy wearing it so that means a great deal, right? Love it with those boots (you knew I would)! I’m trying to remember to wear more of my brooches on a regular basis. They’re such a little thing and add such pizzazz to an outfit.

Thank you Marsha – and I will wear it out and about! And I do love the skirt – it’s such fun to be so frilly and dressed up with the boots and the brooches!
So glad you bought the skirt, it’s such a beaut! I love the styling, particularly with the leather jacket and boots which gives the skirt the edginess that you do so well!
It’s an amazing skirt and I think needs that slight edgy feel to it as dressing it up to be pretty would be too much and not the right look for me.
Thanks Gail 😄
I’m a bit late commenting – what’s new?! – but I had to say how fabulous that skirt looks on you and I love the different ways you have styled it.
The skirt is delightful! I love the color and oh it is so gorgeous! Yes it sure pairs beautifully with grey. So glad you got it!
