Hello everyone

Another month, another hat, another share with the fabulous Judith Boyd. And the hat? Here it is.

It’s a new one this time.  Look. Seriously. I got rid of many hats and other stuff for the move, but clothes and hats are creeping back! Today we’re having a floor-to-ceiling wardrobe installed and I’m so pleased as, with most of my clothes still in boxes, suitcases and temporary racks, I’m not sure where my clothes are or what I’ve got. Not really an excuse to buy more, but I think that’s half the problem.  Also, can I inform you, the wardrobe is the first major thing we’re doing, and that’s before the kitchen and bathroom.  One has priorities, you know, and a wardrobe comes first in this household!

But the hat is a good buy and going to be so useful over the years as it’s a foldable, rollable, packable hat. This year it’ll be taken to France for my holiday.

See the lovely skirt and top?

They’re sale bargains from Toast in Llandeillo, Wales.  Toast is a great outlet and has a strong on-line following, but is seen more and more in the UK high streets selling quite high-end clothes in natural fibres (they’re not paying me to say this!) Llandeillo, which I visit often because we have an elderly relative living there, has the original shop, which has the largest sale area of all the Toast shops.  So naturally I rummage through the sale racks every time we go there!

The top wasn’t reduced all that much.  I bought it for £38 down from £55, but the skirt was an amazing £35 down from £120 – now that’s a bargain!   I teamed it with a belt (also in the sale) and am wearing some soft flat shoes that are really comfortable.

Actually, I am wearing some thrifted, charity shop items – the costume jewellery!

The necklace came from one of those rare charity shops in France, and I’ll take it with me when I go there for my long break.  And the bracelets are such fun and worn often.

Btw, apologies for the tip/mess in the right-hand corner, plus the waste-paper basket, so sorry!  All part of not having enough storage, which is being sorted today – hooray!

That’s all for now

With love, Penny, the frugalfashionshopper

Is the hat from Toast too Penny? I need a replacement for my M&S foldable/rollable hat which has served me well for years but whose crown is threatening to separate from its brim. x

Hats – I love them. I have a ‘summer’ and a winter hatbox – and restrict myself to just those two boxes. I had a lodger and her mantra was ‘one in then one out’ for every bit of clothing she bought – so I try that for myself now – and before I buy I have a think….’Which one goes out if I buy this?’ Good training for me.

Hatboxes – wish they were easier to get hold of. I have one. They are so useful – they keep the dust off the hats very well. And I too have a charity shop bag, and something goes in when I buy an item of clothing. It’s good to constantly weed through the clothes in your closet. Great to meet a like-minded shopper!

    Hi Penny,
I love that hat! I recently found a photo of me at a friends wedding when I wore a hat and dress borrowed from my sister-in-law, the hat is the same shape as yours, a little larger and a sort of silvery grey. The only photo I have where I look good in a hat! I think the shape is very flattering. Your outfit looks great too, I haven’t really looked at Toast before, must investigate. Enjoy your new wardrobes.

For me Toast is a good shop to browse through, but I buy only in Llandeillo as the bargains are outstanding! Re: hats. Have you tried wearing a beret – they suit all shapes of faces.

The wardrobe, btw, is great – so happy with it – thanks x

The outfit is so chic. I love the style, colors, and accessories. The hat is a perfect compliment to the outfit. Stunning look.

Thanks so much Eugenia. As soon as I tried it on I knew. Must listen to that inner voice more, as it was saying ‘hmm’ and ‘I wonder’ when I bought the blue/grey linen skirt! That one though is very cool to wear so will be worn again in the heat, but this latest is one to love!

Penny, I think this entire outfit is one of the nicest I’ve seen you in. You look a million dollars and I can see this whole get-up becoming a real go-to ensemble. I love it.

I love hats too, but they only love me face on because an old lady dewlap is not the best silhouette for a ‘at, believe me! Even so, following the ‘sod it anyway’ attitude I’ve honed to a fine degree over the years, I have been known to top up with a titfer every now and then and provided I keep moving through the crowd and showing only full frontal (face), I’m okay. But your face and your hat, lovely!

Enjoy France – and be sure to pack that outfit!

It will be a go-to ensemble – yes, I could see that as soon as I tried it on. I love your attitude, though re: hats! I have loads of folds now on my neck and the dewlaps are beginning. But we wear attitude when we age – and you and I we both embrace that. Let’s wear hats because #wewearhatsnomatterwhatageweare

Well, thank you, Patti, for continuing to host whilst in a cast with things sticking out! Amazing! Hope you’re not in too much pain – heal well x

      It is a good combo!

Love the hat. I have a crush-able somewhere, but it’s not have as cool as that. That was an amazing price for that skirt. I really like the stripe play and khaki with black is so classic. Thank you for linking up this month.

A pleasure to link with you – such a good idea, Terri. I’ll always be there x

A splendid hat, will go with so many outfits! You and Judith Boyd have encouraged me to embrace hats. I just picked up two in the Next sale and found an adorable black hat with a feather on Etsy. Hope the wardrobe is going well! I’m using the loft as a wardrobe, but the problem is, husband has to keep going up and down when I suddenly need something.
