FILM NIGHT

What I wore on film night – April 2018

For those of you who are new to the blog we used to help run a film society in Newhaven. After 5 years of that we were ready to move on, which we did, stepping down in October 2017 – there are some great people running it now.  We hadn’t

Film night – October 2017

Hi I’ve taken some cracking photos for the next blog post, but I thought I’d just squeeze this in on the last day of October, as this post is about our last day at the film society, as organisers.   Because of course, we might very well come back just

Some film night outfits worn over the years

Wow, life has been sooo busy since we came back. First, it was the unpacking and the washing.  Why is it, even if you wash things before you come back, there’s still a huge heap on the floor after you’ve unpacked! Then we had to pack a whole load of

Film night – April 2017 And a right fashion fail! Plus, it’s all about programming!

Another month, another film night.  We showed The Good Lie, and I hesitate to say, starring Reese Witherspoon, as that’ll give you entirely the wrong impression as the film tells the story of four young Sudanese refugees and their life during and just after the Sudanese war (which started in

Film night – March 2017

This month’s film night was a great success.  We showed the documentary, The Salt of the Earth to the largest audience this season. Eighty people turned up to watch what was in effect a portrait of the renowned and visionary Brazilian photographer Sebastiao Salgado. You might wonder whether a documentary

Film night – February 2017

It’s nearly the end of February and I haven’t told you what I wore at our regular film night, which I will.  But this blog is not always about fashion.  In this post I want to talk a bit about volunteering – do you volunteer? You see we’ve run our local

Film night – January 2017

Hello everyone, and a warm welcome to all, and especially those of you who dropped by and signed up after a mention on Tricia Cusden’s recent blog post on street style and her new hat.  Yes, I do love hats and no need to spend gazillions on them!  It’s great

Film night – December 2016

Hi everyone! Did you have a good Christmas Day?  Sadly, I was a bit under the weather, as we say here.  A combination of too much to do and a virus caught up with me.  Reader, I ate nothing that day!  But making up for it now, plus, as it’s

Film night outfit – November 2016

Hello everyone! Last Saturday we showed Brooklyn – what a lovely, nostalgic almost elegiac film.  Mark Kermode called it a fairytale of New York and you couldn’t have had a more exquisite actor in Saoirse Ronan who is the sweet centre of this story of love, longing and identity.  The

I can’t believe it – this is the 5th season of our film society.  We showed a wonderful French film, La famile Belier, which is set in a village not far from Paris and is about a French farming family whose members are profoundly deaf, apart from their one daughter.

About Me

My name is Penny, I am 74 years old and I live in Brighton, East Sussex. My reasons for writing a fashion blog is that I have built up a great wardrobe on very little money mainly because I buy from charity shops.

So my blog will feature the clothes I have found since I retired, and the clothes that I continue to find in my local charity shops. From time to time I will also comment on issues around women and ageing.

Penny,
