Ethical clothes shopping – is it possible?

Ethical clothes shopping – is it possible?

Are we costing the earth with our love of clothes?  Because 235 million items of unwanted items of clothing will, apparently, end up in a UK landfill this Spring (says a study commissioned by Sainsbury’s). Wow! That seems an awful lot.  Ever the researcher I wonder how they extrapolated those

Film night – April 2017 And a right fashion fail! Plus, it’s all about programming!

Another month, another film night.  We showed The Good Lie, and I hesitate to say, starring Reese Witherspoon, as that’ll give you entirely the wrong impression as the film tells the story of four young Sudanese refugees and their life during and just after the Sudanese war (which started in

How to make a cup of tea!

How to make a cup of tea!

Here in the UK, it’s Easter Monday and another work-free day added to the Easter weekend, so I thought I’d have some fun!  OK, there’s been a wee bit of a controversy lately in the British press with one of our revered actors (David Tennant & a once venerated Dr

Out and about in London!

Out and about in London!

Hi everyone And here’s hoping all of you are enjoying a great Easter weekend.  Personally, I need the time for a bit of a rest as we went up to London on Wednesday.  Wow!  Did we make up for not visiting London for six months?!  Oh, we did.   We

A homage to my hats – the ones that have been sent back to be loved by another!

A homage to my hats – the ones that have been sent back to be loved by another!

I’ve talked about de-cluttering a lot lately.  Most of you know I’ll be moving soon to a small 2-bedroomed flat (or apartment as you might call it). I’ve been really good at sifting through so many things and not just clothes, but vases, plates, cutlery, books, yes, even books!  Because,

Great looks and new finds for April!

Great looks and new finds for April!

Hi everyone As you know, I’m moving to a much smaller place and, therefore, de-cluttering and downsizing big-time.  I’ve been so good.  Loads of clothes, ornaments and kitchen crockery, plus other things, have gone to charity shops to be recycled and loved by someone else. However, some stuff (coughs nervously

Out & about in Brighton – a follow-up to the looks that I liked & didn’t!

Out & about in Brighton – a follow-up to the looks that I liked & didn’t!

Hello again For me, this post is a distraction from events in the UK (not saying anything about it here!) and a follow-up to the post about ‘looks’, and that photo of me looking a bit dishevelled.  Yes, that one, where I didn’t wear a hat, wore my scruffy and

Film night – March 2017

This month’s film night was a great success.  We showed the documentary, The Salt of the Earth to the largest audience this season. Eighty people turned up to watch what was in effect a portrait of the renowned and visionary Brazilian photographer Sebastiao Salgado. You might wonder whether a documentary

The look I like and the look I don’t like!

The look I like and the look I don’t like!

The look.  OK, my very good friend Catherine of AtypicaI60 is so honest.  On her blog she often shows her face and hair how it is.  We see her spots, wrinkles and blotches and hear about the travails and trials of her thinning hair.  So, I’m going to attempt to

Hatwalk 22 – March 2017

Gosh, I’ve been feeling a bit stressed. I’ve been sleeping badly and my IBS has returned.  It’s the move, which is going a bit wobbly.  It could get resolved fairly soon, but at the moment I don’t know where we’ll be living, and we could cancel the whole thing.

About Me

My name is Penny, I am 71 years old and I live in Brighton, East Sussex. My reasons for writing a fashion blog is that I have built up a great wardrobe on very little money mainly because I buy from charity shops.

So my blog will feature the clothes I have found since I retired, and the clothes that I continue to find in my local charity shops. From time to time I will also comment on issues around women and ageing.

Penny,
